- Exercise and Nutrition: Incorporating regular physical activity and a balanced diet to improve mood and energy levels.

- Sleep Hygiene: Establishing healthy sleep patterns to enhance mental clarity and reduce stress.

- Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Teaching mindfulness practices, meditation, and breathing exercises to manage stress and anxiety effectively.

-Identifying external stressors and working with you to minimise these, or to minimise the impact of these on your wellbeing

- Providing information about potential side effects and ensuring safe usage.

Creating a Supportive Environment

At KFMP and WFMP, we prioritise creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can discuss your mental health concerns openly. We are dedicated to working collaboratively with you to achieve the best possible outcomes for your mental health.

How to Get Started

1. Book an Appointment

To begin your mental health care journey, book an appointment with one of our GPs. You can do this online or by calling our practice.

2. Prepare for Your Visit

Think about your symptoms, concerns, and any questions you may have. Consider keeping a journal of your feelings and experiences to discuss during your consultation.

3. Ongoing Support

Mental health care is an ongoing process. Regular follow-up appointments with your GP will help monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed. We are here to support you every step of the way.

4. Stopping Medication

The GPs at KFMP and WFMP can also help you to stop taking your medication (deprescribing)

Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly prescribed for depression and anxiety. While they can be very effective, there may come a time when you and your doctor decide it’s appropriate to reduce or stop taking them.

When to See Your GP

Planning to Reduce or Stop SSRIs

  - Always consult your GP before making any changes to your medication. They can help you create a safe and effective tapering plan.

Experiencing Withdrawal Symptoms

  - If you experience withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, flu-like symptoms, or anxiety after reducing your SSRI dose, see your GP for guidance.

Relapse of Symptoms

  - If you notice a return of depression or anxiety symptoms after tapering your SSRI, contact your GP immediately.

Side Effects Management

  - If you are experiencing troublesome side effects from your SSRI, your GP can help you weigh the benefits and risks of continuing versus stopping the medication.

Steps for Safe Deprescribing

1. Consult Your GP

  - Discuss your reasons for wanting to reduce or stop your SSRI. Your GP will help you evaluate whether it’s the right time and develop a plan.

2. Taper Gradually

  - Abruptly stopping SSRIs can lead to withdrawal symptoms. Your GP will create a tapering schedule to slowly reduce your dose, minimising potential withdrawal effects.

3. Evidence

  - Such as the Maudsley Deprescribing Protocolsare used at KFMP&WFMP to guide and personalise our decision making in developing your treatment plan.
