Contraception

Contraception

We offer a number of contraception options, including a general assessment to determine suitability and counselling around choices and options for each individual.

Implanon

Implanon is a progesterone only form of contraception that lasts for three years. It is able to be inserted in the surgery, please see one of our GPs for more information.

Mirena or copper IUD (Intrauterine Device)

Several of our doctors are certified in the insertion of Mirena and Copper IUDs.

Both Mirena and Copper IUDs are long-acting reversible contraceptive options. Mirena is a soft, flexible IUD that releases small amounts of hormone locally into your uterus. It provides birth control that lasts for up to five to years. A Copper IUD provides a hormone free long term contraception option for five to ten years.

Emergency Contraception: In addition to providing ongoing contraception, the Copper IUD is the most effective form of emergency contraception. It can be inserted within 5 days of unprotected sexual intercourse by one of our trained GPs.

An IUD can be inserted at the Clinic, in women who have or have not had children. Our reception team can book your procedure in for you after you have had a pre-procedure assessment appointment.
